Factory Minds
FACTORY MINDS is a social statement. “Factory Minds” refers to a narrow and one way track of thinking which the masses blindly follow. The band, FACTORY MINDS stands for individualism, questioning corrupt authority and takes a stance on social and political injustices of the present. In their songs, Factory Minds writes about issues of post-9/11 America, personal philosophy, and takes a swing at sarcastic pop. Factory Minds refuses to be dumped into one specific musical genre which is clearly reflected in their music. The group has played and continues to play a wide variety of shows ranging from Power Pop, Hardcore punk, Oi! and Reggae, which are all apparent as their influences.
In early 2008 Rob Van West III (guitar/vocals) founder and ex member of hardcore punk act Call To Arms along with Sergio (drums), decided to start a music project also inviting Brando (Guitar/Vocals) and Noah (Bass/Vocals) after the slowdown of their power-pop band, The Last Chordz. Factory Minds started as a side project that quickly shifted to a full time band after receiving a lot of attention at their practice spot which was at a well known San Jose party house that had a constant flow of people and crazy times. It was at this house where they put out their first self-recorded demo with songs such as “Factory Minds”, “Better Days” and “Drunk Tank”.
In the Summer of 2009 Rob decided to leave the band to pursue a career overseas. Brando, Sergio and Noah felt that it was necessary to continue and without hesitation recruited Joel (guitar/vocals), whom Sergio had been playing in other bands with for almost 10 years. Joel adapted quickly and picked up where Rob had left off without changing their style and added a bit of a harder edge to their live performance. In the same summer Factory Minds was in the middle of recording their first album, “AMERICA’S NOT AT WAR” to be released on THE DOWNTOWN ACADEMY records. Joel helped finish the album with all 5 members featured on it musically and vocally. Factory Minds continues to play shows and are constantly writing music.
Whiskey Rebels
Whiskey Rebels are a five piece punk band coming straight out of Sacramento California. Signed to GMM on the strength of their first demo, they currently have two releases available on GMM. Both CDs showcase a style of street punk that is both agressive and melodic, with plenty of sing along hooks and fist pumping anthems and some old-school hardcore mixed in for good measure.
Pressure Point
From the streets of Sacramento Ca. Pressure Point have been leading the charge of street punk in their city for nearly twelve years. Pressure Point combine a variety of styles and diverse influences to create music that reflects the lives and times of generations. The age gap between the oldest and youngest members is twenty years, and all that history is reflected in the Pressure Point discography. An Oi band with a purpose, these Sacto street rock veterans continue to stick to their guns choosing to follow their hearts rather than fashion.
Aces And Eights
Aces & Eights, a four-piece from Boise, Idaho, got its beginnings in early 2002. Influenced early on by the great punk and Oi! bands of the late 1970’s, as well as contemporary bands who also drew on these influences, A & E’s sound reflected this love of these styles of music. The band released its first album not long after its inception and released its first full-length, Bad Deal, in 2005. The band made a name for itself as it toured throughout the western United States in support of this record, including sharing the stage with many notable bands from across the country.
In the years to follow, after numerous tours and line-up changes, A & E regrouped and recruited the line-up that comprises the band today: Matt Hunter, lead guitar and vocals; Josh Shockey, rhythm guitar; James Turner, bass; and Rene Ramirez, drums. It was in 2007-2008 that A & E moved in what could be considered a new direction with these new members as it began to develop its latest effort entitled A Different Animal… set for release in August 2009 by Sacramento-based The Downtown Academy Records.
While the influences of the earlier days were still apparent, it was also obvious that more traditional rock & roll styles were being employed in the band’s newly-minted sound. This coupling of hard rock & roll, inspired by bands like Motorhead, with punk, inspired by bands like The Clash, helped A & E cultivate their unique brand of street rock and roll that makes them so recognizable today.
